Did you know:
The Amateur Ski Club of New York has traditionally operated without a permanent reserve fund. Whenever projects have come up, members have donated their time and money to accomplish whatever needed to get done. In a way this is reflective of the very early years of the club when the members got together to raise $43,000 to build the lodge on land donated by the Mad River Corporation. The lodge was designed by member Sandy McIlvaine who also designed the base box, the Stark’s Nest, the base lodges at Stratton and Squaw Valley, and the very first chairlift with pull-down bubble cover.
The Board of Governors, in an effort to secure the club’s future, has elected to raise a permanent reserve fund called the “ASCNY Legacy Fund.”
The revised goal is to raise at least $225,000 in 2025-2026 with 100% participation as the first fundraising effort. Other campaigns will follow, and other ways to give will follow, but there will only ever be one inaugural capital campaign. For this first effort, we want your name to be on the list of supporters. You may receive an email or a call from a fellow member and we thank you in advance for any and all support you can provide to this wonderful, warm, welcoming club of ours.

How are we doing?
We have revised our goal to $225,000! Come back often to watch our progress continue.
What project will the first funds support?
Renovation of the lodge fireplace.
The fireplace is the warm centerpiece that on so many Saturday afternoons and evenings becomes the beating heart of our club, where our collection of amateurs — our members who so love skiing that we will brave whatever the elements throw at us — gather to share stories of powder and trees and rocks and stumps.
Unfortunately the fireplace was deemed unusable due to code and insurance restrictions.
We have a plan!
A fireplace committee got to work, determining how to either reengineer the existing fireplace or replace with a new option. One such option is sketched here:
The great news: we met our goal of having a working fireplace before the leaves changed color in 2025.
